About the Course

This two-day course is designed for doctors-in-training as well as specialists who are involved in the management of head and neck neoplasms. It consists of a series of comprehensive lectures and video presentations on the first day followed by hands-on cadaveric dissections on the second day. The emphasis of this Head & Neck Course will be on pathology, management strategies and operative techniques.

 
Objectives
The participant of this course is expected to fulfill the following objectives:
Understand the pathology of salivary and thyroid gland neoplasms
Be aware of the current classification of neck dissections
Appreciate the surgical anatomy of the head & neck
Be familiar with imaging techniques for salivary and thyroid gland neoplasms
Know the surgical procedures involved in selected head & neck procedures
Understand the principles of reconstruction
     
Lectures
The following topics will be covered during the instructional sessions:
Pathology of the salivary and thyroid glands
Anatomy of the neck, parotid and thyroid glands
Classification of neck dissections
Imaging of head & neck tumours
Management of thyroid nodules
Assessment and treatment of laryngeal conditions
Reconstruction of mandibular and maxillary defects
Surgical procedures: parotidectomy, thyroplasty, thyroidectomy, neck dissection and maxillectomy.
 
Cadaver Dissection

The second day of the course will be dedicated to cadaveric dissection. Course participants will be taken through the procedures in a step-by-step manner. The dissection course will begin with Neck Dissection and Thyroiddectomy followed by parotidectomy, Laryngectomy & Maxillectomy.
