Workshop on Effective Teaching: Nuts, Bolts & Souls

Ever wonder why you teach a certain way? Why some students don’t respond to your style of teaching? Do you know that most people teach based on our own style of learning? Participants for the Workshop on Effective Teaching: Nuts, Bolts & Souls were treated with a pleasant surprise as they discover their own individual learning style and how it affects their teaching style.

 The workshop, organized by the Office of Medical Pedagogy @ SGH Postgraduate Medical Institute, was held from 19 to 20 April 2006.

One of the highlights of the workshop was the small group practice, where participants were divided into small groups for discussions and role-play based on various case studies written by the teaching faculty of the Office of Medical Pedagogy. Interactions between the respective groups were video-recorded and used for playback so that participants can learn from an immediate review of their own performance.

The workshop ended on a good note. There is no doubt that the participants went home armed with a newly established understanding and an invaluable set of knowledge. By now, many would have received the postcards reminding themselves what they hope to achieve a month after the workshop.
