SGH Rhinology Week 2009

The Department of Otolaryngology has been organising the annual ENT Instructional Course Week as part of their academic programme. This year, the Rhinology week falls on 16-22 July 2009.

The NOSE occupies a unique and central part of the ENT field. This year’s programme focused on Rhinology. The highlight was the ever popular Functional Endoscopic Sinus Surgery Course and supported by a new Rhinoplasty course and an Allergy Course. These courses have been designed to cater to the needs of trainees as well as specialists who want to update themselves or improve their surgical skills through cadaveric dissections.

As always, the emphasis was placed on management strategies and surgical techniques. The various courses were taught by the department staff, as well as invited international faculty. Among the speakers who participated in the course were Prof Pete Batra, Head and Neck Institute, Cleveland Clinic Foundation, USA, Prof Jung Dong-Hak, Shimmian Clinic, Korea, Prof Bradley Marple, University of Texas, Southwestern, USA, and Dr Taksin Yucel, Turkey.

This year is the first time that the courses were open not only to ENT doctors but to all others in the medical field.  Patients are cared for by health care professionals of different backgrounds. This includes nurses, pharmacists, family physicians as well as traditional medicine practitioners. This presented an unique opportunity for everyone to understand and interact with one another for the benefit of the patients.
