Manuscripts
-
All manuscripts submitted to the SGH Proceedings must be not have been
previously published.
-
Submission of a manuscript implies that if and when this is accepted for
publication, the authors agree to automatic transfer of the copyright to the
publisher.
-
The Editorial Committee reserves the right to edit all articles for purposes of
style, format and clarity.
-
Manuscripts must be submitted in the form of the Vancouver style established by
the International Committee of Medical Journal Editors.
-
Authors should submit five hard copies of their manuscripts on a 3.5 inch disc
in Microsoft Word.
-
Address manuscripts to "The Editor, SGH Proceedings, c/o The Editorial
Executive, SGH Postgraduate Medical Institute, Singapore General Hospital,
Block 6 Level 1, Outram Road, Singapore 169608".
Cover Letter
-
The manuscript must be accompanied by a cover letter, signed by all authors.
The letter should include:

Name of designated author for correspondence.
-
Up to four suitable referees, to whom the Editorial Committee may choose to
refer.
Organisation
-
Double spacing should be used and each of the following sections should begin
on a new page: title page, abstract, text, acknowledgements, references, tables
and legends for illustrations.

A clear and simple writing style (in the active voice) and the use of British
English is preferred.
Title Page
-
The title page should contain:
-
The title of the article.
-
A short running title comprising a maximum of 50 alphabets, including spacing.
-
Full names of all the authors and their two highest qualifications.
-
The department and institution to which the work should be attributed.
-
The name, address, telephone and fax numbers, as well as the e-mail address of
the author for correspondence.
-
Meetings, if any, at which the paper was presented.
Abstract and Keywords
-
A structured abstract (of 100 to 250 words) is required for all research
articles. The structured abstract should consist of Introduction, Methods,
Results, and Conclusion.
-
An unstrutured abstract is required for all other articles.
-
Three to five keywords should be provided and listed in alphabetical order and
they should not have appeared in the abstract.
Text
-
Research articles should consist of Introduction, Methods, Results, Discussion,
and Conclusion.
-
Use Arabic numerals in superscript to cite references.
Legends
-
List all figure legends on a separate page. All abbreviations used in the
figures should be identified and explained in the corresponding legends.
Tables
-
Place each Table on a separate sheet.
-
Number Tables in the order in which they are cited in the text.
-
Provide a footnote to each Table, identifying in alphabetical order all
abbreviations used.
Illustrations
-
Three sets of all illustrations should be submitted together with the
manuscript.
-
llustrations (such as line drawings, radiographs and photomicrographs) should
be submitted in the form of glossy prints and should not be mounted.
-
Each illustration should have a label pasted on the reverse side giving its
number (to correspond with its reference in the text) and the name of the
author(s). The top of the illustration should be indicated with an arrow.
-
If a table or an illustration has been reproduced from a published work,
permission must be obtained from the author and the publisher.
-
Illustrations will be published in black and white. Authors who request for
illustrations to be printed in full colour are to bear the cost of full colour
printing.
References
-
References must be cited in the order in which they are mentioned in the text
and should be listed on a separate page.
-
The journal abbreviations listed in the Index Medicus should be used. A maximum
of six authors can be cited. Otherwise, list the first six followed by "et al".

Proofreading

Authors will be provided with page proofs to proofread. Excessive and
unreasonable changes may be charged to the authors. Proofs must be returned by
the stipulated deadline.
Offprints
-
The corresponding author will receive 10 complimentary offprints.
